　　We are committed to working with Ph.D. studentsduring the doctoral program. Close working relationships with facultymembers while at Wharton are an excellent learning experience, and theestablished relationships can continue throughout the student’s career. Ourprogram is designed to provide students with opportunities to interACT withfaculty early in the program and to get stArted on relevant research. Tworequired elements of the program are the workshop colloquium and the first yearresearch assistantship.

　　Workshop colloquium: The workshop colloquium is a weekly one-hour faculty leddiscussion for all Accounting doctoral students. First and second year studentsare required to attend. In most weeks, the discussion is centered on theresearch paper that an outside speaker is presenting to the department. Inweeks that we do not have an outside speaker, the discussion will be on theresearch of the faculty discussion leader or one of the PhD students.

　　First year research assistantship: First-year doctoral students are research assistants in the springsemester of the first year. Faculty members propose possible projects to thePh.D. coordinator, and students are MATched to those projects with thestudent’s interests and skill development needs in mind. The RA-ship encouragesworking relationships between faculty and students and provides personaltraining in research skills outside of the classroom setting.
