　　As a child, I always had a great fascination with science,mainly because of the mystery involved. Scientists were detectives, constantlysearching for clues and then reasoning them through. Charles Darwin, theSherlock Holmes of the natural world, interested me most, as he saw evidence inthe fossils, plants, animals, and rocks he studied where others saw nothing.

　　Despite facing immense pressure and opposition, Darwin endured for thesake of science and the good of all humanity.

　　I wish to pursue the study of science to satisfy mygrowing passion for knowledge and address the important problems that peopleface; a degree in Science will help pave my way.

　　Throughout my studies thus far, I have had theopportunity to study all different types of sciences, but the subjects thathave interested me most are Biology and Chemistry. Biology is the key to life,and I am eager to learn more about how life develops and sustains itself. Thecomplexity of the human body has always fascinated me. I am captivated bythe-ever developing new scientific discoveries and relish the opportunity tostudy biology at university level. As I have often wondered how the effects andchemical processes interact with the human body. By studying biology, I willacquire the solid knowledge that will render me fully capable of fulfilling mydream – to become a scientist.

　　Chemistry presents us with the fundamental and theabstract. None of my other coursework provided quite the stimulation of thechemistry projects and experiments. As a result of my interest in the sciences,I pursued the subject through other means outside of the classroom. Last year,I established an inner-college Chemistry club. Every week students from thesurrounding colleges meet, and we discuss special areas of interest within thefield of chemistry.

　　As the club organiser, I set up a trip to a localchemical processing plant, where we could witness first-hand the use ofchemistry in an industrial setting.

　　In addition to my studies I am working part-time in alocal store at the customer service desk. This demonstrates that I am able tomanage my time successfully and vary my life experience. My main form ofrelaxation is swimming and drawing and I have been involved in the artwork anddesigning of several displays, posters and theatre backgrounds.

　　I am naturally drawn to the sciences. I have studiedthem, particularly Biology and Chemistry, extensively in school, thus giving methe appropriate academic preparation for the course. I have extended thisinterest further beyond the classroom, incorporating sciences into my life formore practical experiences.

　　I look forward to an exciting and successful career inthe sciences, hopefully enabling me to contribute to the solution of some oflife’s great mysteries.
