The course gives students the opportunity to study the language, literature and culture of medieval Scandinavia in a truly interdisciplinary and structured way; the course is structured in 4 strands (language, literature, research methodology and cultural studies) which are complementary to each other; all students receive basic research training as part of the 1st semester, as well as a solid grounding in Old Norse either at beginners' or advanced level; students without prior knowledge of sources for the study of the Viking Age have the option to take an introductory module at the beginning of the programme; students may choose to take part of their degree at the centre for the study of the Viking Age at the University of Oslo; students complete the programme with a supervised dissertation.
