Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine
京都府立医科大学全称京都府立医科大学Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine也有人叫,成立于1872,是一所规模小型(10000以下)的公立教学型综合大学
Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (KPUM) is a prestigious government-supported medical university comprised of two main divisions – a medical school and a nursing school. Located amid the beautiful Higashiyama foothills of Kyoto, the university was established in 1872, five years after the Meiji Restoration, at the site of the ‘Awataguchi Shoren-in Temple’ in order to provide professional healthcare and state-of-the-art medical research. KPUM is proud of its unique distinction of being the third oldest medical school in Japan, with an impressive 140-year history of making profoundly significant contributions to all aspects of medical science, including education, research, and world-class patient care. The medical college was initially established by donations provided by the citizens of Kyoto, and it was previously managed by Kyoto Prefecture for the purpose of introducing leading-edge medical science to the global community and top-shelf medical care to the citizens of Kyoto and greater Japan. KPUM’s slogan, “World-Leading Medical Science for the Medical Care of All People”, succinctly describes the university’s unwavering forward-thinking philosophy towards global healthcare for all citizens. In order to continue and expand upon our successful history of world-renowned academic achievements, it is important that KPUM continue moving forward on its well-established path of fostering superior medical professionals who not only have profound medical knowledge and skill, but also the highest degree of sophistication and ethical standards, thus cultivating world-leading clinician scientists and basic researchers who are capable of creating and fine-tuning their clinical and/or research goals through independent thinking and original concepts. KPUM is also intently focused on – and continually working strenuously towards – supporting top-level patient care in remote areas of Kyoto Prefecture. To accomplish this goal, the ‘KPUM Medical Care Center’ was established in 1971 as an official administrative body in charge of sending the university’s doctors to affiliated hospitals, governmental medical agencies, and affiliated healthcare centers throughout the greater Kyoto area on a regular and ongoing basis, thus fulfilling its primary mission of disseminating advanced knowledge and skills related to medical care and health and welfare policy. This unique system – the first of its kind in Japan – has allowed the university to achieve fantastic results in building healthcare-related cooperation, not only within the local community, but throughout Kyoto Prefecture. This system is sure to continue its contribution to the improvement of local medical care in Kyoto and the surrounding communities, as it is being strengthened yearly though the collaboration with 120 affiliated hospitals located in and around the greater Kyoto area. The Children’s Hospital that is associated with the Medical College was set up in 1979 (an International Year of the Child) for severe childhood-related diseases that are difficult to be treated by general healthcare facilities. The hospital’s facilities will be widely expanded and merged with the newly-built main headquarters building of our University Hospital in 2011 and will subsequently be renamed as the ‘Children’s Medical Care Center’. Beginning in April 2008, KPUM was transformed into one of the bodies of the Kyoto Prefectural Public University Corporation – an independent administrative agency – thus maintaining the school’s policy of openness and transparency. With the brand new out-patient facilities scheduled to be opened in the fall of 2011, it is our great desire to continuously provide top-shelf healthcare while promoting a dream-inspired forward-thinking academic atmosphere – all neatly nestled within the picturesque surroundings that abut the beautiful Kamo River and overlook historic Mt. Hiei and the majestic peaks of the Higashiyama foothills.
