　　Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should assign homework for students everyday.

　　Students nowadays suffer from heavy workload---they have to spend at least eight hours a day studying at school and they also have to struggle with homework after school. Considering this situation, I firmly believe that schools should cancel the practice of daily homework and give students homework every other day. By doing so, I believe, students would have enough time to do daily chores, develop their hobbies, and improve their mental and physical health.

　　To begin with, students, especially those in high school and college, have to do daily chores like washing their clothes and cleaning their dorms, so if they are asked to do homework every day, they do not have enough time to perform their daily responsibilities. Nowadays, entering into a dorm, you see horrible situations: socks are everywhere, clothes pile up in baskets, and books can be seen on shelves and on desks. When you ask those students to clean up the mess, they don’t usually have any time to respond---they are involved with endless English papers, history projects, and other assignments on a daily basis. Teachers should know that students have chores to do. Therefore, they should be giving homework every other day.

　　Besides, daily homework can be a hindrance to students in developing their interests. At present, many students have a passion for playing the piano, drawing pictures, or playing different sports. However, they sometimes have to make a difficult choice: to abandon their hobby or to forsake their study because developing a hobby requires a lot of time and the same is true when it comes to doing daily homework. My personal experience is a typical example. I loved playing the piano but I had to give it up because after doing a whole lot of homework, I was exhausted and the only thing I wanted to do was to go to bed. If teachers do not give daily homework, then talented students can make full use of their potential.

　　Last but not least, after a whole day’s worth of studying, students are entitled to have time to relax their body and mind. A large majority of students nowadays have to spend at least eight hours attending classes in schools, listening to the lectures, doing researches, and finishing projects. So they are left with little or no time to exercise which I believe is a major reason why some students suffer from obesity, or worse, depression. Considering the fact, daily homework should be eliminated, or else students’ physical and mental health will suffer.

　　In conclusion, daily homework, despite some of its apparent benefits, should be canceled because students need time to do house chores, develop their interests, and adequately relax their body and mind.(455)
